Airlie Beach is one of those places where you will want to do all the tours that you can. Airlie Beach itself is situated on the central Queensland coast and is the main jumping off point for the Whitsunday region. This region contains the islands and resorts of the Whitsunday passage and is one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations. The Great Barrier Reef lies just offshore and the region is also home to one of the worlds most sophisticated bare boat charter industries as well as a hundred or so different yacht charter companies providing everything from a day sail on a famous maxi yacht to a week away in paradise on a majestic square rigger. There are daily trips available by boat, helicopter or seaplane to see the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef. What better place to propose than Heart Reef off the Whitsunday Coast. Several companies have permanent pontoon bases moored right on the reef and it is even possible to stay overnight if you want. There are also a number of dive operators who do day or extended trips to dive and snorkel on the reef. Whitehaven Beach on the ocean side of Whitsunday Island is an icon in the region. It has been voted the best beach in the world and it’s pure white silica sand is the finest possible. Many yachts and power boats make this their daily destination and it is always alive with tourists enjoying the special atmosphere that it has.
There are two major marina’s in Airlie Beach as well as a cruise terminal at Shute Harbour. The bare boat yachting industry has bases at each of these as well as at the marina on Hamilton Island. Here you can take your choice from dozens of different styles of yachts, catamarans and cruisers to spend a few days or a few weeks relaxing around in the worlds most beautiful paradise. There are 74 Whitsunday islands in the region each with its own charm and most with a private beach, secluded anchorage or colourful fringing reef. This is truly the best way for anyone to spend a relaxing holiday. On the mainland there are also many touring opportunities to nearby places of interest. You can take a tour to see a platypus or a crocodile or just to share in the beauty of the local countryside. An Airlie Beach tour will be the part of your holiday that you will remember the most after your holiday is just a memory.
